How much do you know about fiber pigtails?

2022-05-18 16:52:32

Pigtail (the tail fiber), also known as tail line, pigtail line. One end of it has a connector, and the other end is a broken end of a fiber optic cable core, which is connected with other fiber optic cable cores by welding. In other words, cut a jumper into two pieces from the center, and it becomes two pigtails. Pigtails often appear in fiber optic terminal boxes and are used to connect fiber optic cables and fiber optic transceivers.

Fiber Pigtail

Classification of pigtails

Like fiber jumpers, pigtails are also divided into single-mode pigtails and multi-mode pigtails. They have certain differences in color, wavelength and transmission distance. Generally speaking, the multi-mode pigtail is orange, the operating wavelength is 850nm, and the transmission interval is about 500m; the color of the single-mode pigtail is yellow, and the operating wavelength is 1310m or 1550m, and it can transmit at a long interval of about 10-40km. . In addition, depending on the number of fiber cores, pigtails can be divided into single-core pigtails, 4-core pigtails, 6-core pigtails, 8-core pigtails, 12-core pigtails, 24-core pigtails, etc. Choose from different needs.

Use of pigtails

One of the main functions of pigtails is to connect. The optical fiber and the pigtail are connected, and the bare fiber and the optical fiber pigtail in the optical cable are fused together into a whole, and the pigtail has a separate optical fiber head, which is connected with the optical fiber transceiver to connect the optical fiber and the twisted pair. connected to the information socket. In the splicing process of optical fibers, the following main tools are commonly used: optical terminal boxes, optical fiber transceivers, pigtails, couplers, special wire strippers, fiber cleavers, etc. The commonly used pigtails in the transmission system are SC/PC, FC/PC, LC/PC, E2000/APC, ST/PC and other five interfaces.

There are five types of pigtails commonly used in transmission systems:

FC-SC type, that is, the commonly used round-to-square pigtail. The FC is connected to the ODF box, and the SC is connected to the optical port of the device. This kind of fiber optic connector is used more in the early SBS and Optix equipment.

FC-FC type, commonly known as round-to-round pigtail. Generally used as fiber jumpers between ODF racks.

SC-SC type, commonly known as square-to-square pigtail, is generally used for the connection of optical boards between devices.

SC-LC type, the LC interface is commonly known as a small square pigtail, which belongs to a snap-on connector. Now Huawei OSN series equipment, ZTE S series equipment, including the earlier wavelength division equipment of Lucent, all use this kind of optical fiber connector.

The LC-LC type is generally used in the internal fiber connection between wavelength division equipment, and this application is relatively rare.

After reading the above content, I believe that everyone has a certain understanding of fiber pigtails. ZR Fiber produces and sells fiber pigtails with various connector types. The type, length and number of cores can be customized to meet the needs of different occasions. Welcome to consult.
