Optical fiber, also known as fiber optic cable, is a high-speed transmission medium that uses light signals to transmit data. In this article, we will explore the advantages and disadvantages of optical fiber to understand why it has become the preferred choice for high-speed data communication.


Advantages of Optical Fiber:

High Bandwidth: Optical fiber provides a much higher bandwidth compared to traditional copper cables. It can support the transmission of large amounts of data over long distances, making it ideal for high-speed internet, video streaming, and other data-intensive applications.


Long Transmission Distances: Optical fiber can transmit data over long distances without significant signal degradation. With the use of repeaters or amplifiers, it can span thousands of kilometers without the need for signal regeneration. This makes it suitable for long-haul applications, such as telecommunications networks and undersea cables.


Immunity to Electromagnetic Interference: Unlike copper cables, optical fiber is immune to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI). Disadvantages of Optical Fiber:
