Basic use of patch panels

Using a patch panel is as simple as connecting the two fiber optic cables used to connect the electronics to the front and back of the patch panel. Also, if you use a U-connect device on the back, you can use it to relay adjacent electronics. To mount it on a rack and use it, follow the steps below.

1. Install the patch panel into the rack

Install patch panels on partitions of the rack. Since patch panels don't use power, they can be installed anywhere, but are often installed at eye level so that fiber optic cables can be easily attached and removed.

 

2. Place the fiber optic cable

Place the electrical fiber optic cable on the female connector on the rack mount patch panel. All you have to do is plug in the male connector on the side of the cable, so there's no fuss.
