Broken optical cable repair method

If the optical cable fails, first check whether there is a spare core wire in the same optical cable. If there is a spare core, the transmission line is temporarily restored by switching the spare core. If no spare cores are available, or if one is available but cannot be used, recovery can be achieved by locating the fault and constructing an appropriate bypass. The location of the obstacle is determined by OTDR measurements.


An OTDR measurement is a measurement in which light pulses are input from one end of a fiber optic cable. The light pulse propagates in the longitudinal direction of the fiber optic cable, on the one hand it is lost due to scattering and absorption, but on the other hand there is backscattered light back to the incident side. It measures scattered light behind and displays losses, wire lengths, fault locations, and more.

 

Determine the location of the fault through the pulse test, and determine the construction method of the detour route after understanding the fault situation and the laying environment by investigating the surrounding conditions.

 

As a method of restoring a transmission line in an emergency, a method of restoring an optical cable or a closure is generally used. Return transmission lines are constructed by laying restoration fiber optic cables at the point of failure and connecting them to existing or restoration enclosures.

 

Such as installing enclosed recycling cables. When constructing a bypass using a recycled fiber optic cable, the transmission loss of the transmission part may increase, so it needs to be confirmed in advance. Install a restoration cable the length of the junction section and connect with the existing junction box to bypass the point of failure.
