OPPC can also be used for wire melting. Severe icing of transmission lines may cause downed towers and disconnection accidents. In the face of ice and snow disasters, timely and effective melting of ice-covered lines has become the key to maintaining safe and stable operation of the power grid and ensuring normal power supply. 220kV, 110kV, 35kV and below lines are widely used to melt ice by thermal method. A 10kV voltage is applied to a string of wiring, and the heat generated by the short-circuit large current is used to melt the ice. Therefore, the OPPC optical cable is used to melt the ice using the thermal method, and the power transmission and communication scheduling can be better guaranteed.
OPPC uses the corridor resources and tower resources of a transmission line to build optical cables along power lines. Compared with conventional wires + ordinary optical cables, the material cost can be saved by 10%-20%, and it can also save a construction cost. Therefore, it has relative technical and economic advantages.
