Common Troubleshooting of Optical Fiber Transceivers

(1) Fault phenomenon: the indicator light of the transceiver does not light up

Solution: Generally, the AC and DC power transformers are faulty. Use the DC voltage range of a multimeter to measure the output end of the AC and DC power transformers to see if the voltage is normal. If there is no output voltage, the power transformer should be repaired or replaced; if there is voltage output, the fiber optic transceiver should be repaired or replaced.


(2) Fault phenomenon: the PWR light is on, the FX light and the LINK light are not on

Solution: This fault phenomenon indicates that there is a problem with the optical path. Remove the optical fiber head, place it in the dark, and observe whether the light on the opposite side is sent, if not, replace the transceiver on the opposite side. If there is red light, observe whether there is red light at the transmitting end of the fiber optic transceiver and how strong it is. If there is no light or very weak, replace the transceiver; in addition, the optical fiber cable may be connected incorrectly, and the correct connection method is TX-RX; the transmission distance is too long or the intermediate loss is too large, which exceeds the nominal loss of this product, which may also cause In this case, measures should be taken to reduce the intermediate loss or replace it with a transceiver with a longer transmission distance.

(3) Fault phenomenon: FDX, TX lights and LINK lights are off

Solution: The symptom of this failure is that there is a problem with the output. One is to connect the wrong twisted pair, the RJ45 port on the transceiver is connected to the crossed twisted pair for PC, and the parallel twisted pair for HUB or SWITCH; the other is that the electrical port connected through the twisted pair is not 100M rate. Use a cable tester to measure the twisted pair to the switch, if it is normal, it may only be a problem with the fiber optic transceiver. In addition, look closely at the fiber optic transceiver, there is a spliced through switch, sometimes with a small screwdriver to repeatedly fiddle with the switch a few times, you will receive unexpected results.


(4) Fault phenomenon: the indicator lights are all normal, and the network speed is slow

Solution: Use a laptop to connect to the UTP end of the optical transceiver, enter the Windows system, click "Start" → "Run", enter the "Ping XXX -T" command (XXX is the IP address of another machine), you can A breakpoint was found. Replace the fiber optic transceiver. At this time, execute the Ping command again, if there is still a breakpoint, then you need to replace the fiber optic transceiver at the other end.


(5) All six lights are on but no signal can be transmitted

Solution: Generally, turn off the power and restart it to return to normal.
