A fiber optic splitter splits the signal on an optical fiber into two or more optical fibers. The PLC splitter in the optical fiber splitter makes the splitting technology a big step forward.
PLC separator function
- Developed using quartz glass waveguide circuitry and aligned fiber pigtails integrated in a miniature package.
- Distribute or combine optical signals based on planar lightwave circuit technology.
- Provides a low-cost solution for optical signal distribution with a very small form factor and excellent reliability.
- Provides a better solution for applications requiring larger split configurations. To achieve this, the waveguides are photolithographically fabricated from a silica glass substrate, allowing a specific percentage of light to be separated. Therefore, PLC beam splitters provide accurate and uniform light splitting with minimal loss of optical power.
Types of PLC splitters
PLC splitters can be connected to a variety of single-mode and multi-mode fibers, and the most common types of fiber optic connectors are suitable for various applications. Generally, there are bare fiber PLC splitters, micro-encapsulated PLC splitters, box-type PLC splitters and rack-mounted PLC splitters.
Bare Fiber PLC Optical Splitter
Bare fiber plc splitters are used in tight spaces and can be conveniently placed in junction boxes and fiber splice boxes.
They are mainly used for 0.9mm fiber, ribbon fiber can be converted to 0.9mm fiber by fan-out. Fiber optic connectors are available for the input and output of these splitters.
Cassette plc distributor
They use PLC and packaging techniques to split a wavelength into multiple ports.
Rack-mounted plc distributor
It is a key component of FTTH, responsible for distributing signals from fiber optics to homes.
Install a PLC splitter in each optical network between the PON optical line terminal and the optical network terminal served by the OLT. WDM-PON networks will use arrayed waveguides instead of splitters. With the rapid development of global FTTx, the demand for large splitter configurations in the network is also increasing. Due to performance advantages and overall cost of deployment, PLC splitters are now the ideal solution for these types of applications.
Available branches are: 1x2, 1x4, 1x8, 1x16, 1x32, 1x64, 2x2, 2x4, 2x8, 2x16, 2x32, 2x64. PLC splitter with connector can be used with common fiber optic connectors such as LC/SC/FC/ST.
