Fiber optic quick connector/cold connector

The fiber optic quick connector/cold connector is a very innovative field-terminated connector, which contains factory-installed optical fiber, pre-polished ceramic ferrule and a mechanical splicing mechanism. The incoming optical fiber or indoor optical fiber can be inserted into the mechanical splicing mechanism without using other tools, and the termination process only takes about 2 minutes, which greatly saves installation time. Fiber optic quick connectors/cold splices currently on the market can terminate single-mode and multimode fibers with diameters of 250 μm, 900 μm, 2.0 mm and 3.0 mm. From the figure below, we can see that the mechanical splicing mechanism is mainly composed of a V-shaped groove and a clamping element; when the fiber needs to be inserted, the V-shaped groove is opened with a wedge-shaped clamp to facilitate the smooth insertion of the fiber. How to use optical fiber quick connector/cold joint

Although the use of fiber optic quick connectors/cold connectors is very simple, correct steps must be followed during installation. In general, the installation process of fiber optic quick connectors/cold connectors is as follows:


Step 1: Prepare fiber optic quick connectors/cold splices, fiber strippers, fiber cleavers, fiber cleaning tools, etc.;


Step 2: Put the connector boot on the optical cable;


Step 3: Strip the outer sheath of the optical cable with an optical fiber stripper, clean the optical fiber, and then cut the bare fiber with an optical fiber cutter. The length of the bare fiber is reserved according to the specific situation;


Step 4: Insert the optical fiber into the optical fiber quick connector/cold joint;


Step 5: Press the gland to lock the fiber;


Step 6: Put the boot on the fiber optic quick connector/cold joint.


Precautions

Fiber optic quick connectors/cold splices are extremely susceptible to contamination and should be kept away from dusty and polluted areas.


The result of fiber cutting has an important impact on the performance of fiber optic quick connectors/cold splices. It is best to use an automatic fiber cleaver to obtain the best cutting effect.


When inserting the optical fiber into the optical fiber quick connector/cold splice, it should be inserted slowly to prevent damage to the optical fiber, resulting in poor transmission performance of the optical fiber.
