When using optical fiber for engineering, you must first understand optical fiber and supporting products, such as optical fiber terminal boxes, optical fiber splicing boxes, optical fiber pigtails, optical fiber couplers, ODF distribution frames, etc., to understand how these supporting products are applied. Understand the difference between optical transceivers and fiber optic transceivers

In analog monitoring, the optical fiber supporting equipment is an optical transceiver, which converts optical signals into BNC interface signals, while the optical fiber supporting equipment used in digital monitoring is a fiber optic transceiver, which converts optical signals into RJ45 interface signals. Optical fiber is divided into two types: multi-mode optical fiber and single-mode optical fiber. Therefore, single-mode optical fiber is mostly used in monitoring projects. Therefore, when purchasing optical fiber supporting equipment, it is also necessary to choose equipment that supports single-mode optical fiber. According to the materials used in the manufacture of optical fibers, there are four types: quartz series, plastic-clad quartz core, multi-component glass fiber, and all-plastic optical fiber. Silica fiber is mainly used in optical communication, and the fiber referred to in the future mainly refers to silica fiber.


According to the working wavelength, it can also be divided into short-wavelength optical fiber and long-wavelength optical fiber.


Fiber splicing method

Fiber splicing can be divided into two methods: thermal fusion and cold splicing. Hot fusion is to fuse two optical fibers through an optical fiber fusion splicer, while cold splicing is to splice two optical fibers together through optical fiber cold splices. However, the cold joint is less stable than the hot melt method, so it is recommended to use the hot melt method.

The outdoor optical fiber can be laid overhead or buried. Since the optical fiber is made of optical fiber, do not twist the optical fiber hard during the laying process to avoid breaking the optical fiber inside.
