How much do you know about flame retardant optical cables? I believe that many people are relatively unfamiliar with this piece, especially the fire rating of optical cables. Is the fire rating of communication cables important? In fact, the fire rating of the optical cable depends on the material. ZR Cable will tell you the relevant knowledge below.
Our intelligent building should be a safe building first, in order to ensure the normal operation of the intelligent system. After the introduction of the structured cabling system, the total amount of cables installed in commercial buildings has greatly increased. Usually cables are bundled and installed in the space between the false ceiling and the building mezzanine, or under a raised floor. Special attention is paid to the performance of cables, not only in terms of their transmission characteristics, but also in preventing potential fire hazards.
There are various regulations regarding fire protection in the world. A variety of communication optical cables and cables put into the market have thousands of different standards and requirements, each of which has different characteristics such as fire resistance, smoke resistance, corrosion resistance and toxicity. These properties depend on the material composition of the cable, the size of the sheath, and the insulation of the inner conductors.
Cables with low flame spread and high flame resistance are used to prevent the rapid spread of flames to other parts of the building. This allows more time to escape and prevents flames from spreading to flammable materials in the building.
The flame retardant requirements of communication cables are described in Chapter 8 of GB50311-2007 as follows:
1. When laying cables in an open manner in a ventilated space (such as in a suspended ceiling and under a raised floor, etc.), CMP grade (optical cable is OFNP or OFCP) or B1 grade can be selected.
2. When the main cable in the cable shaft is laid in an open way, CMR grade (optical cable is OFNR or OFCR) or B2, C grade can be selected.
3. Under the condition of using a sealed metal pipe groove for fire protection, the cable can be selected as CM grade (optical cable is OFN or OFC) or D grade.
Annex A in GB50174 also mentions:
Class A computer room should use CMP class cable, OFNP or OFCP class fiber optic cable
Class B equipment rooms should use CMP-class cables, OFNP or OFCP-class optical cables
From a standard point of view, there are certain requirements for the fire resistance of cables in the wiring system. However, the ruthless fire in reality tells us that there is still a long way to go on the road of fire protection. In particular, the short board in flame retardancy of data communication cables needs to be strengthened urgently. ZR Cable has been focusing on the research and development and sales of optical fiber products for more than ten years. If you have doubts about optical communication and demand for high-quality optical fiber products, you can consider ZR Cable optical fiber brand, ZR Cable optical fiber products are made with ingenuity.
