What are the connection methods of the patch panel?

The distribution frame is mainly used for the modular management of the front-end information points at the central office, and is a very important part of the integrated wiring management subsystem. Connected to the switch, once the cable fails, it is likely to cause the entire network to be paralyzed, facing the risk of rewiring, and at the same time, it will also cause confusion in management. Very important, then do you know what types of patch panels are there? What are the connection methods of patch panels? How should the patch panel be connected to the switch?

What are the types of patch panels?

There are three types of patch panels on the market today: one is a 110-wire patch panel (ie, a modular patch panel), the second is a straight-through patch panel (clamped patch panel), and the third One is the electronic distribution frame.


1. 110-wire patch panel

The front panel of the 110-type patch panel is RJ45 interface, each interface has a digital identification, and the rear panel of the 110-type patch panel is a wiring module, which is marked with the T568A and T568B line sequence standards. According to the actual needs, the network cable can be connected according to the line sequence.

2. Straight-through distribution frame

The front and rear panels of the straight-through patch panel are all RJ45 ports, and each port on the panel has a digital identification. Currently, there are two sizes of patch panels on the market, 24-port and 48-port. In fact, the straight-through type distribution frame is more convenient to use than the 110-wire type distribution frame. It can be used directly by inserting the network cable, which is more suitable for high-density wiring requirements.


3. Electronic wiring frame

The use of the electronic distribution frame is the same as that of the straight-through distribution frame, which can be directly inserted into the network cable. The electronic distribution frame can analyze and form data through the detection line, which brings convenience to network maintenance personnel. There are two detection methods of port and link in the detection form. The network cables used in different forms are different, which can be determined according to the equipment. Due to the relatively high cost of electronic distribution frames, they are rarely used in current projects.


What are the connection methods of the patch panel?

No matter what type of patch panel, there are two connection methods, one is direct connection and the other is cross connection.


1. Straight line connection

Straight line connection (also known as interconnection) refers to connecting one end of the horizontal cable (network cable) to the patch panel in the work room, and the other end to the patch panel in the wiring room. Panels are usually RJ-45.


2. Cross-connect

The cross-connection method refers to installing two patch panels in the horizontal link, connecting one end of the two patch panels in the horizontal link through the network cable, and then connecting the other ends of the two patch panels in the horizontal link through the network cable. Connect with the patch panel in the work room and the patch panel in the wiring room.


Both of the above two distribution frame connection methods can locate the communication line to different positions of the building, which is convenient for us to manage the communication line, and at the same time, it is convenient to plug and unplug when moving the terminal.


How to connect the patch panel to the switch?

It can be seen from the above-mentioned connection method of the patch panel, whether it is the patch panel in the work room or the patch panel in the wiring room, the rear end is in an idle state, and the patch panel in the work room is generally connected with the server by network cables. , The patch panel in the wiring room is generally connected with the switch by the network cable, so how is the patch panel and the switch connected? Then it depends on the type of patch frame and the connection method of the patch frame. Different types and connection methods will lead to different connection schemes between patch panels and switches.


Before connecting the patch panel to the switch, first determine the storage location of the patch panel and the switch, then select the appropriate length and quantity of network cables as needed, and finally perform wiring connections according to the type and connection method of the patch panel. The specific connections are as follows:


1. 110-wire patch panel direct connection wiring scheme

The direct connection wiring scheme adopts one of the above-mentioned distribution frame connection methods, and uses network cables to connect the distribution frame in the work room and the distribution frame in the wiring room. Since the rear panel of the 110-type patch panel is in the mode of wiring, we need to connect the network cable, and the network cable cannot be used directly. The wiring steps of the 110 wiring type patch panel are as follows:


First, use a wire stripper to peel off the network cable shell (reserved length 40MM), then drive the network cable into the wire clip according to the international standard T568B or T568A wire sequence, and finally use the wire cutter to crimp and cut the network cable.


Other cables can be driven into the distribution frame according to the above steps. It should be noted that the connected network cable needs to be fixed on the cable bracket with a cable tie, which can effectively protect the network cable and facilitate management and maintenance.


2. Straight-through distribution frame cross-wiring scheme

The crossover wiring scheme is another way of using the above-mentioned distribution frame connection method. Two distribution frames are added to the horizontal link, and one end of the two distribution frames in the horizontal link is connected by a network cable, and then the horizontal chain is connected. The other ends of the two distribution frames in the road are respectively connected with the distribution frame in the work room and the distribution frame in the wiring room through the network cable. Since the straight-through patch panel is used, the patch panel and the switch can be directly connected with a network cable. Note that the network cable is inserted into the electrical port of the switch.


Friendly reminder: It is best to use labels to identify all network cables, which is convenient for management and maintenance.
