Detection of single-mode fiber optic patch cords and matters needing attention

How to check whether the fiber jumper is qualified? Using an insertion loss detector, first use a clear pen to measure whether the patch cord is clear, then determine the fiber no measurement indicator. General carrier-grade indicators: insertion loss is less than 0.3dB, return loss is greater than 45dB. The performance test of optical fiber jumper is divided into optical performance test, end face geometry detection, optical fiber end face scratch detection, optical fiber tension test, and ambient temperature test.


Precautions for the use of single-mode fiber patch cords

The transmit and receive wavelengths of the optical modules at both ends of the carrier-grade single-mode fiber jumper must be the same, that is, the two ends of the fiber must be optical modules with the same wavelength. The simple difference is that the color of the light modules must be the same. Generally, short-wave optical modules use single-mode fibers, and long-wave optical modules use single-mode fibers to ensure the accuracy of data transmission.

Do not bend or twist the fiber in use, as this will increase light attenuation during transmission.


After the single-mode fiber patch cord is used, be sure to protect the fiber connector with a protective sleeve. Dust and oil can damage the coupling of the fiber.


If the optical fiber connector is dirty, you can use a cotton swab to clean the alcohol, otherwise the communication quality will be affected.


1. Before use, you must first wipe the ceramic sealing washer and the end face of the sealing washer with alcohol and cotton wool.


2. The minimum bending radius of the optical fiber is less than 30mm.


3. Protect the gasket and the end face of the gasket to prevent bumps and pollution, and put on a dust cap in time after disassembly.


4. When transmitting the laser signal, do not look directly at the end face of the fiber.


5. When human factors and other force majeure factors are damaged, the damaged fiber jumper should be replaced in time.


6.If an abnormality occurs in the optical network or system, it can be tested one by one through the troubleshooting method. Carrier-grade single-mode fiber patch cords can be tested or debugged first, often by illuminating the entire fiber link with a visible laser pointer. Or further test its various indicators with a precision fiber insertion loss detector. If the indicator light is within the qualified range, the jumper indicates normal, otherwise it is unqualified.
